in which i eat a carton of tofu by my lonesome.

2 Oct

There’s not a lot to say about BBQ tofu that hasn’t been said.  Delicious.  Easy.  Deleasy– ok, no one says that.  It’s a portmanteau of delicious and easy that I just made up.   My deepest apologies.

Keeping it brief, my bullet points from this meal…

– Everyone suggests marinating tofu before cooking, but I completely disagree.  I prefer browning the tofu first and adding the marinade to the pan.  Cooking it all together on med-med hi heat until the liquids have all cooked down.  The sauce perfectly coats the tofu, and I didn’t need to plan any of it in advance (BONUS!).

– Tofu Xpress is magic.  I was way skeptical.  I mean, I know how to press tofu.  But, I cannot argue with the results.  I don’t think I’ve ever been able to cook tofu on cast iron without some of it getting stuck.  And, dang, it comes out so firm.

– Rough Rider BBQ sauce from Vegan Diner is so good.  Stop buying it and start making this recipe.  NOW.

I have to agree. Frying than simmering is the best!

the bbq sauce is from the cookbook vegan diner by julie hasson. it’s not really mine to post, but i highly recommend at least getting her book from the library because that is one of many tasty recipes i’ve tried from it.

That tofu stopped me in my tracks. I, too, hate to marinate. I really love to sear tofu and top it with this awesome teriyaki sauce. It’s so good. I need to try that Rough Rider sauce already.

I’ve been wanting to get a Tofu Xpress, but I don’t have room in my kitchen for another gadget. Especially a gadget that only functions to press the water out of tofu. But gah, I need it. I need it bad.

yes, i wasn’t really feeling the price tag for something i can do for free, but i got it as a gift. it truly does do a better job than i would, though. impressed.

Now I will start incorporating “deleasy” into my everyday speech. People may look at me funny, but I will tell them it’s all the rage on the internet. That should shut them up.

More seriously: whoa that tofu looks lip-smackin’ good!

Everyone always has nothing but praise for the TofuXpress, and I always talk myself out of buying it because the price is a little high for me, but I think I would totally love it. I need to have it. SOOOOON!!

And ditto about the cast iron.
